I believe that the medical profession is not only incapable of policing themselves, but there are actually several mechanisms within various aspects of the field that actively discourage responsible and ethical, peer-review, “see something say something” mentalities from flourishing. I believe that an excellent example of this culture of wagon-circling, as our book referred to it, can be found in the case study of Dr. Christopher Duntsch, better known as Dr. Death (not to be confused with Dr. Jack Kavorkian).
